Haunting Goats

The relationship between Lyric and Atticus feels incredibly rushed in the beginning, which made it difficult for me to believe that there’s a genuine connection between them - “but you hardly know each other” is probably my most used annotation throughout the book. That in turn made it difficult for me to really get into the story, and that feeling sadly stuck around for the majority of the book. I feel like the story could have benefited from a lot more build-up to Lyric and Atticus’s relationship. There were a few things that annoyed me that I can’t get into detail about because it would spoil parts of the book, and I didn’t really get invested in the story until… approximately the last 15 pages. I have to admit that the ending does make me want to read the second part of the duet, because I do want to know the details of how they got there and what they’re going to do next. This curiosity sadly does not undo the fact that I personally didn’t enjoy the majority of the book. (I received this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)

This book started out with an amazing story line. Had me hooked right away. The backstory about Lyric was heartbreaking and definitely a rollercoaster ride. You just really felt for her and rooted for her. Atticus had a different background which I was excited for because this I was hoping would be Lyrics Ying to her Yang. Their romance was super fast and rushed. At times I was asking myself if more time had passed because of the wordage used referring to behaviors. But I think it was a short time. I don’t know….But let me say this, there were times I actually hated Attie. Sometimes his behavior towards Lyr had me pissed off. I just was hoping he was going to be her savior, that safe place always for her. There were times I was saying to myself he’s an asshole. But then he’d turn around and be that safe place for her. Ugh!!! There were times the sex scenes would happen for the sake of happening at the most bizarre times. I love dark romance but something didn’t hit for me here. The ending was wild. I did enjoy the close of this story. I will read the next one to find out more. It was an entertaining story and I would recommend if someone is wanting something easy to read.

Decay B has written a book I thought I had figured out along the way, but the unexpected plot twists towards the end took me by surprise. The plot was fairly easy, with Lyric and Attic, and their life together seeking revenge for Lyric. I loved Lyrics development throughout the story. She started like an anxious woman that let others trample over her in abuse, and ended as a strong woman with own opinions and thoughts thanks to her relationship with Attic. Attic was sometimes so sweet and caring towards her, and other times he was irritating me with the way he saw the situations or treated her. I also felt the spicy scenes came at a bizarre timing in the story, and it seemed that some of them were thrown in there just for the sake of being there. Their romance felt a bit rushed, and I took myself in thinking that they didn’t really know each other even at the end. That being said I’m curious to see how the plot plays out in book 2. I highly recommend to read the trigger warnings before this book, since some topics were quite heavy loaded with rape, abuse, grooming and gore to mention some. This book ain’t for everybody and that’s okay. This book is a good fit if you are okay with all the trigger warnings and you like dark romance, paranomality, gore, murder and mental health in a wicked plot.

I really liked Lyr's struggles. The abuse and neurodiversity and trust issues were very well portryed and build a repor with the reader. The premise of the book was intriging. For me the attraction between Lyr and Atticus was too quick and I feel the spice was put in all over just to be spicy. That being said it was an easy read and if that's your vibe you will certainly enjoy it.

Haunting Goats is one of those books that you pick up and can’t put down. I read it in 4 days. Decay has a way of making you feel like you’re living in the characters worlds and feeling all of their emotions. She captures your attention right from the start making you not want to put this down. It takes you into an imaginary world of the “in between”. Can there be love after death? The ending was not what I expected, that twist still has me wondering…..was it all real? Love, Attie The book does have some trigger points so if you’ve been through domestic violence, murder, or don’t love gory scenes, this one may not be for you.

Haunting Goats is everything you didn't realize you need in a book. Atticus only wants what's best for Lyric- to move on. But Lyric is just looking for "home". Sometimes home is a feeling, rather than a place and you need to read to see how they figure that out. I had the absolute pleasure of reading this previous to it's release and I died laughing when I figured out why it's called Haunting Goats. Then, the ending?! Better believe that I was right in Decay's inbox screaming for the next part! The characters go through so much development, and maturing- even though they're dead. The bad guys get EXACTLY what is coming to them. This is a must read for anyone who needs some tension, a few laughs and a dang good time going through some sh!t

Haunting Goats is the stunning debut dark romance novel from new indie author, Decay B. I knew the moment I saw the cover of this book pop up in my feed that I absolutely HAD to read it. I followed Decay right away and made my interest very clear! 😆 I feel truly blessed that she noticed me and decided to reach out and invite me to her street team, allowing me to read HG early! It was such a good read, the kind that made me feel ALL the feels. I laughed, I yelled, I cheered, I raged, I gagged a little and I cried. I ate it all up and I absolutely loved it. Decay captured my attention right away with Lyric, or Lyr, our plus sized, feisty and vulnerable FMC. Her vivid descriptions of people and places made me feel like I was living inside Lyr's world, walking beside and experiencing everything with her. From her first moments with Atticus, or Attie, our obsessed, possessive, ghostly MMC and giant teddy bear of a Daddy Dom, to the very final word of the book, I felt truly immersed in the rich world our talented author has created. That said, it's a world that is as dark as it is vivid. Lyric goes through some very traumatizing things, in both her past and the present, which is where we pick up the story, just moments before she takes her final breath. There are a LOT of twists and turns within these pages that I wasn't expecting, as well as... 🩶 A Morally Gray FMC & MMC 👻 Spicy Ghosts 🩶 Him Falling First & Hard 👻 Forced Proximity 🩶 " Who did this to you?" Vibes 👻 Touch Her & ☠️ Vibes 🩶 A Little Bit of Blood & Gore ...and an ending that left me silently screaming at Decay B. Which I definitely told her, too! Not only did that ending leave me silently screaming, it also left me dying for book 2 of The Human Address Duet. Which I will be recommending to anyone and everyone I come across. I'll also telling anyone I recommend it to to please check out the trigger warning and content lists because there's some really dark moments and themes in this book. Your mental well-being is more important than reading a book that might put said well-being in jeopardy. I hope that after checking those lists out you will still want and be able to read Haunting Goats, because it is just, in my not so humble opinion, a wonderful and so beautifully written debut. I’ve never really thought about how I would handle myself in some of these situations for Lyrics found herself in. Really had me laying in bed, holding my tablet and staring at ceiling while pondering the meaning of life and the afterlife. But that ending?? Now I have MORE questions!!

Haunting Goats by Decay B. completely caught me off guard. By the time I reached the ending, I was genuinely just sitting there... staring at the wall trying to process the absolute curveball that got thrown at me. I thought I had things figured out, and then the book said, "Think again." If you loved Pen Pal, this one should absolutely be on your radar. It has that same unsettling, emotional, "what is actually happening?" feeling that keeps you flipping pages. One of my favorite parts was Lyric's journey. She starts as someone crippled by anxiety, constantly second-guessing herself, and honestly, I related to that so much. Watching her slowly come out of her shell, find her voice, and become the one taking charge made the entire journey worth it. Her growth felt earned, and I found myself rooting for her every step of the way. And then there's Atticus. My heart honestly broke for him. He spends his entire life trying to control everything and save everyone because of the weight of his past. No matter how hard he tries, it feels like it constantly backfires on him, which made him such a tragic and compelling character. But in the end... he still managed to save the person who mattered most. This book doesn't shy away from difficult topics. Please check the trigger warnings before diving in. It contains: On-page sexual assault On-page abuse Murder Your mental health matters more than any book, so please read with care. Overall, Haunting Goats is an emotional, haunting story filled with obsession, trauma, healing, revenge, and twists that will leave you questioning everything. I'm still thinking about that ending.
